Our Prospective Candidates

The next scheduled elections that will involve voters in the constituency will be the elections for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly, which will take place in May 2004 followed by the election for members of the European Parliament (MEPs), which will take place a month later in June 2004.  None of the prospective Conservative candidates for these elections have yet been selected.

For the London Mayor and Assembly elections West Lewisham forms part of the Greenwich and Lewisham 'super' constituency.  Our members will combine with members from the other constituencies in this group to choose our prospective Assembly and Mayoral candidates in December 2002.

For the European Parliamentary elections we form part of the 'London South Inner' Euro-constituency, which includes eight constituencies from Lewisham, Greenwich, Southwark and Lambeth.  We will be selecting our prospective candidate for this election early in 2003.

It is always possible that, if either our MP or one of our local Councillors resigns, we will have to fight a By-election at some point.  There is also the prospect of a referendum on whether this country should adopt the Euro as its currency.  The Labour Party promised such a referendum 'early' in this term of office.  It is one of the many promises they have so far failed to keep.
